(Sioux Valley, Mn.)– Two field fires early this (Sun.) morning in the Sioux Valley area of Jackson county are said to be of suspicious origin and are under investigation.
The Lake Park Fire Department was called around 1:00 a.m. to a large field fire in the 3900 block of 710th Street in Jackson county. While enroute, firefighters were notified of another fire just one and-a-half miles east of the first call.
Other departments were then contacted for assistance.
Firefighters had a tough time controlling the fires due to the terrain. They were limited to using all-terrain-vehicles equipped with firefighting equipment along with brush trucks along the outer edges.
Six fire departments wound up being called to the scene. In addition to Lake Park, Spirit Lake, Lakefield, Okabena, Round Lake and Bigelow Fire Departments were all called to the scene.
The blaze burned more than 100 acres of land and took four hours to contain.
No buildings were destroyed.
Lake Park Fire Chief Brandon Ehret says the two fires are suspicious in origin and an investigation into them is underway.
No injuries were reported.
