Three Area Fire Depts. Battle Corn Crib Fire

November 22, 2014

(Wallingford)– Three area fire departments battled a corn crib fire Friday afternoon in Emmet county.

Wallingford Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says his department was called to the Al Heebner farm southwest of Wallingford around 1:20 p.m.

Fischer says the corn crib was fully engulfed when they arrived. He says the Terril and Estherville Fire Departments were then called to assist in hauling water to the scene.

The blaze spread to a nearby round hay bale. Firefighters were able to keep it from spreading from some nearby buildings.

The corn crib and its contents, valued at about 1,800-dollars, were destroyed.

Fischer says the fire was caused by sparks and embers from a nearby barrel where some feed sacks and other materials were being burned.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were on the scene about two hours.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office assisted on the scene.
