Jackson Co. Authorities Alert Public To Telephone Scam

November 22, 2014

(Jackson, Mn.)– The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to be on the lookout for a telephone scam that’s been reported to their office.

Sheriff Roger Hawkinson says it involves a caller who requested money from an elderly couple to help their daughter pay for purchases. They were requested to take 3,500-dollars to a Walmart store and send it from there. Fortunately, Hawkinson says family members were aware of the scam and no loss was reported.

Hawkinson says this is the second time in two weeks such a scam has been reported to his office.

He’s urging family members and friends to talk to the elderly about the scam in order to protect them from losing money.
