Royal man arrested

(Royal)- A Royal man has been arrested for attempting to elude an officer, driving with a suspended license, and for no proof of insurance. 57-year-old William Smith of Royal was arrested on Saturday.

A Clay County Deputy while on patrol in Royal noticed a red Chevy blazer driving on Main St. The Deputy knew that the driver, William Smith did not have a valid drivers license. At that time the Deputy attempted to stop Smith on Main St.

The vehicle did not stop and continued down Main St and onto 4th Ave where Smith then drove up into his yard at 402 Long St and then fled on foot. The Deputy was then able to catch Smith in the next yard over and place him into custody with out further incident.

As of Saturday, Williams was being held in the Clay County Jail to appear before the Magistrate.
