Residents Urged To “Adopt A Hydrant”

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– When it comes to fighting fires, time obviously is of the essence.

Dean Dodds, Superintendent of the Spirit Lake Water Department, says there’s something you can do to help out. He’s urging residents to “adopt a fire hydrant”.

Dodds says making sure hydrants are accessible and clear of snow and ice can save firefighters valuable time.

Dodds says his crews have been out marking hydrants with tall stakes to let firefighters know where they’re located.

He adds recent fire calls, including Sunday’s major fire in Lake Park, points out the importance of making sure fire hydrants are readily accessible.
