(Emmetsburg)– Some new phone scams are making the rounds in which perpetrators again try to get your personal information.
One involves a person claiming to represent the do-not-call registry. The person says that in order to be added, you must provide various information, including a social security number.
The other comes from someone claiming to represent a diabetes supply company that requests a Medicare number.
Palo Alto County Sheriff Dennis Goeders says several residents in that county have reported getting such calls, which are scams.
Authorities say you should always be suspicious when a solicitor starts asking for personal information, such as account numbers, credit card numbers, social security numbers, and so on.
If you get such a call, they say you should simply hang up and report the call to local authorities.
