(Estherville)– The board of trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College decided to proceed with two building projects at their regular monthly meeting Tuesday.
Trustees awarded the low bid on an addition to the Wind Energy building on the Estherville campus to Christensen Construction of Estherville in the amount of 550,300-dollars.
College officials say the 6,200 square foot addition will allow the Wind Energy and Turbine Techonoly Program to accept more students starting this fall.
On another project, trustees decided to move ahead with plans for a Construction Technology building at the Estherville campus.
Last month trustees agreed to hire an architectural firm to draw up plans and specs on the building. College staff and students could then complete the project, saving money.
The trustees Tuesday told staff to proceed with the project as part of the 2009 “ACE Infrastructure Venture”.
College officials say the facility would expand “green” building curriculum to the current case work.
Pending state approval of the ACE funding, Delaine Hiney, Executive Director of Facilities Management, will return to the trustees asking for permission to approve the specs and set a bid date.
