Vienna Boys Choir To Perform In Spencer

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A group of young vocalists that’s known around the world will be performing later this month in Spencer.

Martin Arthur of the Spencer Area Concert Association tells KUOO news the Vienna Boys Choir will perform at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14th at the old High School auditorium in Spencer.

The choir consists of about 100 boys between the ages of 10 and 14. It’s divided into four different choirs that give about 300 concerts and performances a year, appearing before almost half a million people. Each group spends 9 to 11 weeks of the school year on tour in the European countries, Asia, Australia and the Americas.

Arthur says they were stunned when officials with the Vienna Boys Choir came to them, requesting to put on a performance in Spencer. He says logistics led to their interest in Spencer, as they’ll be putting on a concert the night before in Iowa City. From Spencer, they’ll head to Watertown, South Dakota.

All seats for the February 14th concert are reserved. Tickets are $20 each for adult members of the Spencer Area Concert Association; 30 dollars for the general public. Student tickets are 10 and 15 dollars each.

Tickets are availabel at Arts On Grand in Spencer or by calling (712) 262-4307.

More information is available at www.spencerconcerts.org.

Arthur says the concert is being made possible in part by a Community Betterment Grant from the Clay County Community Foundation.

In addition, KUOO news has learned a crew with Iowa Public Television will be in Spencer that evening taping a piece on the arts in rural Iowa.
