Judge Delays Sentencing For Local Police Chief In Theft Case

November 22, 2014

(Primghar) – A judge has delayed sentencing of a local police chief accused of selling stolen hogs and pocketing some of the money.

David Johannsen, of Sutherland, was to be sentenced on a theft charge on Monday in O’Brien County District Court.

Judge Nancy Whittenburg postponed it until March 23.

Johannsen was arrested last July. He pleaded guilty to third-degree theft on Dec. 29.

According to the criminal complaint, Johannsen was accused of
selling hogs belonging to Liberty Products Inc., where he worked, to Lynch Livestock in Primghar from July 2004 to July 2006.

Johannsen was placed on unpaid leave after his arrest.
