(Arnolds Park)– Area fire departments say the public should be aware of a telemarketing firm that’s been calling people claiming to raise money for firefighters.
Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth is stopping short of calling it a scam. But he says there’s reason to be suspicious. He says he attempted to call the 1-877-657-6576 number after being contacted by a local resident who received a call. Yungbluth says he left a message and that no one called back.
Yungbluth says the company claims to act as a spokesperson for local fire departments requesting donations for educational materials for area schools. They go by the name “Firefighter Support Services Incorporated”.
Yungbluth says while he can’t confirm the company is actually a scam, that it does not represent any of the departments in Dickinson county.
Yungbluth says if you would like to donate to your local department you can do so by directly giving your donation to the department that serves where you live.
