Search Of Spencer Apartment Turns Up Pipe Bomb; 19-Year-Old Man Arrested

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Spencer police say they came up with more than they bargained for while executing a search warrant today (Friday)–a pipe bomb.

Police say they found the device while searching an apartment in the 300 block of Grand Avenue in Downtown Spencer.

19-year-old Alexander Larson was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to register as a sex offender and for second degree arson in connection with the pipe bomb.

The Spencer Fire Department and the State Fire Marshall were called to the scene to assist in disposing of the device. It was taken to a secure area and was detonated.

Larson, meanwhile, was booked into the Clay county jail.
