(Spirit Lake)– You could call it a local spin of ABC television’s popular Home Makeover program.
Members of the Homebuilders Association of Northwest Iowa and other volunteers are donating their time and talent to transform a garage at the Savage residence into a living space for Dalton, who faces special needs as the result of a spinal injury he sustained last fall. Dalton is currently confined to a power chair.
Tony Weber of the Northwest Iowa Homebuilders Association says they started work on the project last week and hope to have it completed by March 13th.
The garage is being rennovated into a living space, along with a bedroom and a bathroom. It will be connected with the dining room of the main house.
Weber says this project is an example of similar community projects the association does each year. He says proceeds from their annual Parade of Homes building products show.
The Homebuilders Association of Northwest Iowa has about 66 members, consisting of building contractors, trade contractors and related material suppliers.
This year’s Parade of Homes will be held June 13 and 14th.
Weber says they’re still accepting donations for manpower and materials, along with money. They can be made by contacting or stopping by JVL Corporation at 336-3006. Donations may also be dropped off at the Lakes Community Land Trust.
Dalton is a senior at Spirit Lake High School.
