Kennel Fire in Royal

(Royal, IA)–On Saturday morning March 14 the Royal Fire Department responded to a fire at Creeks Bend Kennel located at 2120 – 390th Street. Firefighters found flames coming from the northeast corner of the kennel building. The fire then spread into a barn located north of the kennel. The kennel suffered severe damage while the barn sufered minor damage. Three puppies perished in the kennel building while all other dogs were saved. The Royal Fire Department was assisted by the Everly and Spencer Fire Departments and The Clay County Sheriff’s Department.
An investigation into the cause of the fire was conducted by the Royal Fire Department and The Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office. The probable cause of the fire was a malfunction of a heat lamp and was ruled as accidental.
