Area Middle School Students Invited To Participate In Entrepreneurship Academy

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A week-long Entrepreneurship Academy for area students in grades 7-9 will be held July 27-31 at the Spencer campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.

The event is being put on by the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, of which Kathy Evert is President and CEO. She says the event will teach students the power of starting their own business.

Evert says topics will include how to write a business plan, how to create cards and flyers, and how to turn a hobby into a business.

She says students will also learn from real entrepreneurs during the week and will have to raise capital in a mock-business setting. At the end of the week students will present their business plans to a panel of judges in hopes to win cash.

Students in grades 7-9 in Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson and Emmet counties are eligible for the program.

Enrollment forms and more information can be found at www.lakescorridor.com or by calling (712) 264-3474. Application deadline is May 15th, 2009. The cost is 49-dollars, with full scholarships available for those in need.

Evert says the first program in 2008 graduated eight students from the region.
