(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble competed Tuesday in the third annual Best of Iowa Jazz Choir showcase at Dallas-Center/Grimes High School.
Earlier this year, Spirit Lake’s jazz choir was selected as one of the best nine jazz choirs in Class 3-A in Iowa through an audition process.
Tuesday, the top nine jazz choirs in each class competed in performance. Spirit Lake earned the runner-up trophy in class 3-A.
The group will perform as part of the grades 7-12 jazz show Monday, April 6th at 7:30 p.m. in the Sami Center.
In addition, Sarah Webb was selected as one of three outstanding soloists in class 3-A. Sara Hummel received a soloist certificate.
A statewide audition was also held Tuesday for the Iowa All-State Jazz Choir. Over 65 students competed for the 16-voice choir from all sized schools across the state. Sarah Webb of Spirit Lake was selected as one of four sopranos for the choir.
Sarah is Spirit Lake’s first-ever member of the Iowa All-State Jazz Choir.
