Two People Now Face Charges In Child Endangerment Case

November 22, 2014

(George)– Two people have now been charged with child endangerment in what authorities say appears to be a hammer attack on a child in northwest Iowa.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says the five-year-old boy from George is being treated for lacerations to the head from multiple blows from possibly the claw end of a hammer. The Sheriff’s Office says the child suffered a fractured eye socket and stab wounds to his back. He also has other injuries, including bite marks and a volleyball-size scab area on his back that may be the result of a burn.

The boy’s mother, Nikki Moreno, and Juan Carlos Moreno were being held Thursday in the Lyon county jail on bond of 10-thousand dollars each.

Authorities say some of the injuries may have been caused by the child’s six-year-old brother.
