Ice Officially Leaves Iowa Great Lakes

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Here’s another sign of spring: the ice has gone out of the Iowa Great Lakes.

That word from Kirk Ewen of Arnolds Park who keeps track of the official freeze/thaw dates of the lakes.

Ewen tells KUOO news East Lake Okoboji was officially ice-free March 24th while the final chunks of ice on West Lake Okoboji broke up Friday (April 3rd).
