(Spencer)– Big news today (Wednesday) for the city of Spencer.
The Iowa Department of Economic Development announced Spencer is one of 14 Iowa communities being awarded funding from the Iowa Downtown Resource Center and the Main Street Iowa Program.
Spencer will receive 50-thousand dollars for various projects to improve and enhance its downtown area.
A total of 617-thousand dollars was awarded to various communities throughout the state. It comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development along with 200-thousand dollars appropriated by the 2008 Iowa Legislature.
The funds are being distributed in the form of challenge grants.
