(Spirit Lake)– It’s laughingly said there are two seasons around here–winter and road construction. One of those seasons, road construction, is getting underway today (Wednesday) in Dickinson county.
County Engineer Dan Eckert says barricades are going up on three roads, including 100th Avenue on the Dickinson/Osceola county line, where the first mile north of Highway nine will be closed to install two culverts.
Another that will be closed to through traffic is 235th Avenue in the Leisure Beach area on Little Spirit Lake; the third is a half mile concrete paving project on the east side of Superior on 327th Avenue, which will be closed from Highway nine north about a half mile. Eckert says most of those areas will be off limits for some six to eight weeks, weather permitting.
Another major project is about to get underway as well. That includes Peoria Avenue between 15th Street in Spirit Lake and County Road M-49 on the southwest side of Big Spirit Lake. Eckert says that road will be closed to traffic beginning this coming Monday. It will be reopened to traffic Walleye Weekend to accomodate the high volume of traffic expected in that area during that weekend. It will be closed again the following Monday and will remain closed to traffic until mid November. Eckert says the project will include removal of existing pavement, grading, relocating of utilities, and a new 30-foot wide concrete pavement will be put on.
