Fire Damages O’Farrell Sisters Restaurant

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– A fire late Friday afternoon damaged an Okoboji restaurant.

Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth says firefighters were called to O’Farrell Sisters around 3:30 p.m. Upon arriving he says firefighters could see light smoke coming out from under the eves of the building.

Yungbluth says workers were in the restaurant getting ready to open the business for the season when they noticed smoke coming from the ceiling. He says they used fire extinguishers to try to contain it while they called the fire department.

Yungbluth says firefighters found some insulation around a light fixture in the ceiling was burning. In order to access they had to pull down the ceiling and open the attic. They were able to quickly put it out, but damage was estimated at between 7,500 and 10-thousand dollars.

Yungbluth says the cause was electrical in nature.

O’Farrell Sisters was originally scheduled to reopen around the end of the month. Officials weren’t sure if the fire would delay that.

Arnolds Park/Okoboji firefighters were on the scene about an hour and 10 minutes.

No injuries were reported.
