New Siren Hooked Up Just Hours Before Saturday Night’s Fierce Storm

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A new outdoor warning siren got hooked up just in the nick of time for Saturday night’s fierce storm.

Dickinson County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret says the new siren in the Moore Lake area east of Arnolds Park was already up, but didn’t have power connected to it yet. Ehret says the contractor doing the electric work indicated originally it wouldn’t be until early in the upcoming week before they could get it hooked up. But he says crews with Mueske Electric arrived Saturday morning and made the connections.

Ehret says he’s heard from people in the Moore Lake area that heard the siren going off during Saturday night’s storm.

A total of 28 outdoor warning sirens are now operational in Dickinson county. And Ehret says they plan to add more on the west and south sides of Big Spirit Lake and in the Montgomery area as budgets allow.

More information on the outdoor sirens and the protocol that’s used to sound them can be found at the Dickinson County Emergency Management website at www.dcoem.org.
