Clay County Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Investigation

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– What started as a traffic stop last Thursday in Clay county has resulted in drug charges against three people: one from Estherville and two from Spencer.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy pulled over a vehicle shortly after 11:30 p.m. last Thursday for speeding.

Upon investigating, the deputy determined the driver, 20-year-old Katherine Stewart of Estherville, had allegedly been smoking marijuana earlier in the night. A search turned up what’s alleged to be Vyvanse in Stewart’s purse, a drug that’s used to treat ADHD. Upon searching the vehicle, Stewart was also found to be allegedly in possession of alcohol under the legal age. She was arrested and booked into the Clay county jail.

Upon further investigation, authorities obtained and executed a search warrant at 110 4th St. S.E. apartment #113 in Spencer. 24-year-old Michael Fedele and 29-year-old Carly Shannong…both of Spencer…were arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities say the search turned up what’s alleged to be a small quantity of marijuana and prescription pills.

Stewart was charged with possession of a controlled substance; unlawful possession of prescription drugs; possession of alcohol under the legal age; and speeding.

Fedele and Shannon were charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities say the investigation continues and more arrests are expected.
