Clay County Fair Receives National Recognition

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The Clay County Fair is getting some national exposure. It’s been dubbed as one of 10 great places for blue-ribbon county fairs, as listed in last Friday’s edition of USA Today.

The story in the travel section of the paper focused on 10 fairs that feature unique and historical aspects of the traditional county fair. The article featured commentary from authors Drake Hokanson and Carol Kratz who wrote the book “Purebred and Homegrown: America’s County Fairs”.

Comments in the article regarding the Clay County Fair make reference to its display of farm machinery and the fact the event is still centered around agriculture, but also brings in big name entertainment.

In addition to the Clay County Fair, other fairs making up the 10 great places for blue ribbon county fairs include the Tillamook County Fair in Oregon, Chautauqua County Fair in New York, Vernon County Fair in Wisconsin, Adams Agricultural Fair in Massachusetts, Elbert 12-County Fair in Georgia, Johnson County Fair and Rodeo in Wyoming, Merced County Fair in California, Deltana Fair in Alaska and Fayette County Fair in Indiana.

The 2010 Clay County Fair will be held September 11th through the 19th.
