SL Council Members Say Golf Course Development Project Is Atleast Several Years Away; Proceed With Land Severence Request

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– With the proposed golf course development project apparently atleast several years down the road yet, the Spirit Lake city council voted unanimously Tuesday to direct the City Attorney’s office to draw up a resolution that allow for some of the land that was voluntarily annexed into the city be severed.

Land owners James and Charlene Radcliff have told the city they want their land back in the county for now atleast, and that they may be willing to listen to developers should talk of the project start up again in the future.

The council took the action after members Steve Balm and Clyde Ihrke said they had visited with some other land owners involved in the project. Both Balm and Ihrke told them it was their understanding the project was still atleast several years away.

Marty Benskin, a Des Moines developer that’s behind the proposed project, was originally scheduled to be at Tuesday’s meeting, but couldn’t make it at the last minute due to a family emergency.

The council will act on the severance resolution at its next regular meeting.
