(Spirit Lake)– The November 2nd General Election in Dickinson county is taking on some interesting components.
For instance, there is now a three-way race for County Recorder. Incumbent Jan Bortscheller faces competition from two people who have filed by petition. They are Lezlie Boetel and Susan Reiter…both of Spirit Lake.
For the district one board of supervisors seat, Ken Eckerman, a Democrat, has withdrawn his name from the ballot, leaving just one candidate for the seat, William Leupold, a Republican.
For board of supervisors district two, Republican Incumbent Mardi Allen faces a challenge from Democrat Mike Koppert; and Paul Johnson is unopposed for district four.
Republican incumbent Kris Rowley is unopposed for County Treasurer and Republican Jason Carlstrom is running unopposed for County Attorney. Incumbent Rosalise Olsen isn’t seeking re-election.
Paul Haywood is running unopposed to fill a vacancy on the West Okoboji city council.
Jeff Smith and David Johnson are unopposed for State Representative and State Senate, respectively.
Dickinson county residents will also decide whether the monthly E911 surcharge on your phone bill be increased from 75 cents a month per line currently to a dollar.
The last day to file for office was this past Wednesday, August 25th. Monday (Aug. 30th) is the last day for a candidate to withdraw.
The first day to vote absentee in the Auditor’s Office is September 23rd, but applications for absentee ballots can be filled out now. They will be sent out September 23rd.
