(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake woman convicted in October of 2008 of theft in the first degree in connection with the embezzlement of more than $400,000 from the Before And After School Services program has had her probation revoked by a judge.
Margaret “Meg” Waltz was sentenced to a prison term not to exceed 10 years, which was suspended. She instead was placed on probation for five years. The terms of that probation called on her to obey all laws and to pay restitution of $401,743 to the Iowa Department of Human Services and to purchase a life insurance policy in the amount of $500,000 to be be made payable to the Iowa Department of Human Services.
According to court documents, Waltz violated terms of her probation when she was charged with theft in the second degree in trial information filed June 29th, 2009, and that she failed to purchase the life insurance policy and submit a plan of restitution; and that she on several occasions committed theft by check.
As a result, a judge ruled on September 1st of this year that Waltz’s probation be revoked and that she be required to serve the 10-year sentence previously imposed.
