Okoboji Foundation Seeks High School Students For “Youth In Philanthropy” Initiative

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– The Okoboji Foundation is launching a new “Youth in Philanthropy Initiative”.

Organizers say it’s part of a national trend that allows high school students to lead and support change through philanthropy.

Mary Freiborg, Foundation President, says they’re looking for student applicants for the 2010-2011 Youth Council. Students in grades 9-12 from the Okoboji, Spirit Lake and Harris-Lake Park schools are encouraged to apply. Application forms are available at high school offices. Council members will be selected by October 1st.

The council will consist of 15 to 20 students and will meet once a month from October through May. They’ll participate in the process to determine recipients of Okoboji Foundation Grants by using information from a Community Needs Assessment and the foundation’s donor survey to review and score grant applications. The council will then present its recommendations to the Okoboji Foundation Grant Committee.

The foundation is also encouraging area individuals, business organizations and families to become an annual sponsor of the Youth In Philanthropy Initiative. More information on that is available by contacting Freiborg at 332-7177.
