Absentee Voting Gets Underway For Nov. 2nd General Election

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Absentee voting for the November 2nd General Election is getting underway today (Thurs.) across the state of Iowa.

Dickinson County Auditor Nancy Reiman expects a significant number of people will vote absentee. She says her office so far has processed 110 mail-in requests for absentee ballots. She expects the final number of absentee voters to be similar to 2008 when nearly 3,000 Dickinson county residents voted absentee.

The process to vote absentee in person is especially simple. In addition to being atleast 18 years of age, Reiman says you must be registered to vote in Dickinson county and fill out a simple form and affidavit. Reiman says it’s also helpful for first-time voters to bring a photo I.D. with them.

Those wishing to vote absentee through the mail can fill out a simple form requesting a ballot and send it to their local County Auditor’s Office, which will then mail the ballot. Ballots must be returned in the mail no later than the day before the election.

Those wishing to vote absentee in person at County Auditor Offices may do so up until the day before the election during regular office hours. Reiman says her office will be open some Saturdays in October to help accomodate absentee voters.

Reiman expects quite a bit of interest in the November 2nd election with the statewide initiatives and the race for Governor. In addition, voters in West Okoboji will decide on a candidate to fill a vacancy on the city council.
