(Spirit Lake)– Officials with Lakes Regional Healthcare and the Bedell Family YMCA hope a partnership between the two will catch on with others in the area.
Under the arrangement, LRH employees can purchase family memberships at the YMCA for $15 a month…a subsidized rate that is below 75 percent of the cost of a normal membership.
The program rewards employees that participate in YMCA activities 10 times per month by giving them $10 in wellness program credits that can be used for YMCA fitness classes and training programs.
Bedell Family YMCA CEO Norm Johnson says they’ve been developing a corporate wellness program that encourages employers to provide program opportunities to their workforce. He says LRH is the first partner in the new initiative and that they’re anxious for other employers to follow suit.
LRH President and CEO Jason Harrington says the program allows the hospital to “practice what it preaches” by encouraging everyone to become active and live a healthy lifestyle.
In addition, the hospital has also created an employee health and wellness committee that has established a wellness program in which nearly 150 employees are involved.
