Local Law Enforcement To Participate In

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A number of law enforcement agencies throughout the region will be involved in the latest crack down on motorists not wearing seatbelts.

The latest “Click It Or Ticket” campaign gets underway today (Monday 5/23) at continues through June 5th.

A news release from the Iowa Department of Public Safety says officers will especially be concentrating their enforcement efforts after dark.

The release says that in Iowa, of those who died in nighttime crashes in 2010, nearly two-thirds, or 62 percent weren’t wearing seatbelts at the time. In addition, 50 percent of Iowa’s traffic fatalities occur during the daytime when 88 percent of the motoring public is traveling. Authorities say the remaining 50 percent occur at night when only 12 percent of motorists are on the road.

And don’t expect to get off with just a warning if you’re caught not using a seatbelt. Officials say you instead WILL be issued a $127 ticket.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office is among the agencies participating.
