Little Sioux Flood Warnings Extended

(Spencer)– Recent heavy rains have resulted in the National Weather Service extending flood warnings on the Little Sioux River in the Spencer and Linn Grove areas.

Forecasters now say the flood warning on the Little Sioux in Spencer has been extended until 11:00 a.m. Friday. As of Tuesday, the Little Sioux at Spencer was estimated at 11.6 feet. Flood stage is 10 feet. The National Weather Service now says the Little Sioux will crest at 11.7 feet in Spencer sometime this (Tues.) afternoon and will drop below flood stage sometime this Thursday.

At Linn Grove, the flood warning remains in effect until Friday evening. The Little Sioux at Linn Grove was measured at 18.33 feet as of 5:00 this (Tues.) morning. That’s slightly above the flood stage of 18 feet. The National Weather Service says the Little Sioux at Linn Grove is near crest and will remain there through tomorrow (Wed.). They say it should then drop below flood stage on Thursday.

So far, only minor flooding is reported in the Spencer and Linn Grove areas.
