(Arnolds Park)– The Okoboji Foundation today (Wed.) announced its 2011 grant recipients.
The Dickinson County Trails Board, Historic Arnolds Park, Incorporated, Camp Foster YMCA and the Dickinson County SnowHawks are among this year’s recipients.
$30,000 was awarded to the trails board to assist in funding a recreational trail on the west side of West Lake Okoboji and to raise a dam on a holding pond.
$30,000 was awarded to Historic Arnolds Park, Incorporated for a drainage project at Preservation Plaza, or the green space. The project will include rain gardens and is intended to reduce run-off into West Lake Okoboji.
$11,600 was awarded to Camp Foster YMCA to renovate and re-roof the camp’s chapel and to install a handicap accessible ramp and sidewalk.
And the Dickinson County SnowHawks was awarded $8,000 to assist in the purchase of a snowmobile trail groomer.
Since 1989 the Okoboji Foundation has distributed more than $2.2 million in awards to non-profit organizations throughout the Iowa Great Lakes.
The Foundation will hold its Lakes Legacy Weekend June 24th and 25th. Special tribute will be paid to Berkley and Elinor Bedell. They’ll be presented with the Foundation’s first Benefactor’s Award in a ceremony to be held at Peace Harbor on West Lake Okoboji.
