City Of Spirit Lake To Temporary Close Green Waste Disposal Site

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The city of Spirit Lake is temporarily closing its green waste site to make room for a concrete crushing operation.

City officials say the site just east of Orleans will be closed Wednesday (6/15) through the rest of the work week. They’re hoping the site can be reopened by this coming weekend, barring any equipment breakdowns.

Public Works Director Dwight Dohlman says the contractor, Redding Gravel of Marcus, will start moving equipment in today (Tues.).

Dohlman says the city will use the crushed concrete for its street repair program. He says it should result in a cost savings as the city won’t have to purchase quarried gravel. And he says it’s better for the environment as it prevents a large amount of material from going to the landfill.
