ILCC Offers Special Testing Program For Job Applicants

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– Individuals looking for work may want to take advantage of a testing program at Iowa Lakes Community College which can enhance their chances of getting a job.

The “WorkKeys” testing program helps identify work-related skills which applicants possess.

Deborah Clark, Success Center Instructor at Iowa Lakes, is a certified administrator for the test. She says over 50 employers in the region use the test in their job application process to certify work skills of potential employees. She says that makes it even more important for job seekers to have a certificate to ‘stand out from the crowd’…especially when so many people are looking for work.

The college is conducting the tests in conjunction with IowaWORKS.

The testing isn’t just for the unemployed. Clark says those who may be currently employed, but are looking for a better job, should consider taking the test as it will give them a ‘preferred’ status when searching for new employment.

Two testing sessions will be held at the Spencer campus in upcoming weeks. The first is Friday, July 8th from 8:00-11:30 a.m. The second is Friday, July 15th, also from 8:00-11:30 a.m. The fee for the exam is $25. Future tests will be given in Spirit Lake, Estherville, Emmetsburg, and Algona. Dates for those will be announced in upcoming weeks.

The test was designed by ACT, a nationally recognized independent organization which provides a broad range of educational assessment tools.

To pre-register, call the Iowa Lakes registration staff at 1-800-252-5664 or complete an online application at www.iowalakes.edu/ContinuingEd. Please refer to course number 38132 (7/8/11) or 38133 (7/15/11).
