(Des Moines)– Some northwest Iowa cities have been awarded Community Development Block Grants through the Iowa Department of Economic Development to assist with some sanitary sewer improvements and housing projects.
Paullina was awarded $248,000 and the city of Spencer will receive $600,000 for sanitary sewer projects.
Primghar will receive $197,700 for the rehabilitation of six owner-occupied single-family housing units while Sheldon will receive $297,500 for the rehabilitation of 10 such units.
The Iowa Department of Economic Development received 141 applications for the funds, totaling more than 44.2 million dollars. The grants are awarded based on the financial need and potential impact of the project, benefit to low-and moderate-income persons, and commitment of local resources to moving a certain project forward.
The Community Development Block Grant program is federally funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
