Dickinson County Officials Opt To Wait On Any Distribution Of Sandbags

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Dickinson county officials announced this (Thursday) evening they aren’t ready to start distributing sandbags to the public…atleast just yet.

Various city and county representatives were on hand, along with representatives of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary Sewer District, for a hastily called meeting that also included the county’s Emergency Management Coordinator, Mike Ehret. Ehret says it was the concensus among those at the meeting to make sure the county has enough sandbags on hand to protect public infrastructure, before making any available to the public.

Ehret added they are currently prioritizing public infrastructure to get a better idea on the immediate need.

The group is scheduled to reconvene at Noon tomorrow (Friday) at which time they hope to have a better handle on what will be required for infrastructure protection.
