Palo Alto Co. Crash Claims Two Lives

(Cylinder)– A two-vehicle collision shortly before 9:00 yesterday (Thurs.) morning on Highway 18 a mile east of Cylinder in Palo Alto county two lives and sent two other people to the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says 57-year-old Bruce Plucker of Curlew was eastbound and 77-year-old Franklin Honold of Hampton was westbound. Authorities say Plucker’s vehicle swerved into the westbound lane, colliding head-on with the vehicle driven by Honold.

Plucker and a passenger in Honold’s vehicle, his 71-year-old wife Janice Honold, were both pronounced dead a short time after the collision.

Franklin Honold and another passenger in his vehicle, 58-year-old Wayne VanVeldhuizen of Lake Mills, were taken by ambulance to the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.

The crash took place shortly before 9:00 a.m. yesterday (Thurs.).

The State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office.
