(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a request from the city of Spirit Lake to pursue urban renewal, or tax increment financing authority, on 130 acres of land it plans to convert to a business park on the city’s east side.
The city plans to eventually annex that land, but because it’s under the county’s jurisdiction as of right now, it needed the county’s permission to pursue the TIF proposal.
City Administrator Mark Stevens told the supervisors the city is extending an invitation to the county if it would like to enjoin neighboring land into the proposed TIF district area. The supervisors took no action on that Tuesday.
Stevens said the city plans to use revenue generated by the TIF District to pay to extend utilities and infrastructure to the site, which he said would be done on an as needed basis.
