The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Nickolas Joens of Harris was driving a 2001 Ford F250 southbound on a county road when he entered an intersection and collided with a 2009 Chevrolet truck driven by 47-year-old Scott Johnson of Hartley.

A 17-year-old female juvenile from Lakefield was cited and released for possession of alcohol under the legal age.

Joens was charged with operating while intoxicated…first offense; driving under suspension, open container, operating a motor vehicle without registration, failure to obey a stop sign, failure to prove security, failure to file SR insurance and supplying alcohol to minors.

Authorities say the incident took place around 6:40 p.m. and that it remains under investigation.

$7,000 in damage was estimated to the truck driven by Joens and owned by J & J Plumbing; $15,000 in damage was estimated to the truck Johnson was driving.
