(Ruthven)– A two-vehicle collision earlier today (Wed.) in Clay county seriously injured a rural Ruthven teen.
The Sheriff’s Office says 18-year-old Brecken Stukey of rural Ruthven was driving a 2003 Ford pickup northbound on 330th Avenue when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with 380th Street near Ruthven. He traveled into the path of an eastbound 1999 Ford pickup driven by 56-year-old Richard Larson of rural Ruthven. The pickup driven by Stukey went into the east ditch and flipped end-for-end, coming to rest in the ditch facing south.
Stukey was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Spencer Hospital and was transferred by helicopter to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls with incapacitating injuries.
No injuries were reported to Larson, who’s pickup came to rest on the roadway facing east.
The pickup driven by Stukey was totaled; minor damage was reported to the one driven by Larson.
Stukey was cited for failure to obey a traffic device, failure to maintain control, reckless driving, failure to wear or maintain seat belts, and possession of alcohol under the legal age.
The crash took place shortly before 8:00 a.m.
