(Sioux Falls, S.D.)– National Weather Service officials have identified an unidentified flying object seen over portions of northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota and southeast South Dakota early Wednesday.
The bright light that appeared in the sky around 3:30 a.m. prompted several calls to law enforcement and the weather service. There were reports of the bright light in the sky being seen locally in the lakes area.
Tim Masters, a technician with the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls, says the flash of light wasn’t a UFO, but a meteor.
He says it was a random event and not part of a meteor shower. There were no reports of anything hitting the ground.
National UFO Reporting Center Director Peter Davenport says the bright light is consistent with a meteor, though he says the only way to know for sure would be to interview the people who saw it.
