Milford Man Sentenced On Federal Meth Charges

(Sioux City)– A Milford man has been sentenced in U.S. District Court after pleading guilty to meth charges.

36-year-old Benjamin MacMillan was sentenced December 1st to 66 months, or more than five years, in federal prison.

MacMillan pleaded guilty back on June 30th of this year to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to distribute and aiding and abetting another in the possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

At his plea hearing, MacMillan admitted his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of meth containing more than 50 grams of pure methamphetamine. According to court documents, MacMillan traveled to Kansas City, Missouri every two weeks from mid-2010 through February 2nd, 2011 to obtain 1/2 ounce to 4 ounce quantities of methamphetamine. The documents state that on the way back from Kansas City, MacMillan was stopped by law enforcement and four ounces of methamphetamine was seized from a contact solution box that had been thrown out of the vehicle at the time of the stop.

In addition to the prison time, MacMillan must also serve a 4-year term of supervised release.

He’s being held in the custody of a U.S. Marshal pending transport to a federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force, Estherville Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
