NW Iowa Farmer Sentenced On Theft And Fraud Charges

November 22, 2014

(Sioux City)– A Pocahontas county farmer has been sentenced in federal court on theft and fraud charges.

34-year-old Andrew Frerk of rural Havelock pleaded guilty in August of this year to one count of converting to his own use nearly $60,000 worth of property.

According to court documents, between march and December 2006 Frerk converted about $45,529 worth of cattle, $7,212 worth of grain and $1,598 in government program payments.

The documents accused Frerk of making false statements to secure FSA loans, that he used proceeds from the sale of FSA-mortgaged property for his own use, and that he concealed the activity from loan managers.

Frerk was sentenced to three years probation and was ordered to pay $58,339 in restitution.
