Clay County Fair kicks off on Saturday

November 22, 2014

Spencer –

The Clay County Fair officially kicks off on Saturday, September 8.  Known as the “World’s Greatest County Fair,” some 300,000 people are expected to pass through the gates of the fair over the next week.

This year’s theme is “Discover the Greatest,” and Fair Manager Jeremy Parsons says there are several new things to discover at the fair this year.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with the Iowa Great Lakes Corridor Development Corporation with the new Innovation Pavilion this year,” he says. “The Innovation Pavilion will feature18 vendors, local entrepeneurs and technology businesses showcasing new products, some of which no one has seen before.”

Parsons adds that other new things at the fair this year include large “you are here maps” located around the fairgrounds.  Additionally, the fair will feature Wildlife Wendy and her Tropical Birds, and the Aussie Kingdom this year.

The kangaroos and wallabies are not the only Aussies at the fair, with Rick Springfield and Air Supply teaming up for a double bill at the Grandstand on Tuesday night. Other big name performers at the fair include LeAnn Rimes, Chris Young and Jeff Foxworthy.  “We really wanted to have a variety of acts, so they’re something for everyone,” says Parsons.  He notes that there is plenty of free entertainment, once inside the fairgrounds.  “We have over $100,000 worth of free entertainment on the various stages for people to enjoy.”

Of course, there is much more to the Clay County Fair.  The full schedule may be viewed at claycountyfair.com
