Local AgriSafe Program To Be Benefitted By Grant

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The National AgriSafe Network, of which Spencer Hospital is a member, has been awarded $171,000 for training to improve the health and safety of workers in agriculture. The funding is provided by the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program, which focuses on providing education and training for workers and employers.

Carolyn Sheridan is the Director of the AgriSafe Program at Spencer Hospital and serves as Clinical Director of the AgriSafe Network. She says the local AgriSafe program will have access to training modules funded through the grant. She says she and her staff will assist in scheduling training sessions in various locations around the region.

Specifically targeted at small pork producers and grain processing facilities, the funds will be used to provide training on respirator programs, personal protective equipment related to chemical exposure, and manure pit safety.
