What could be a major winter storm is still on track to affect the region over the latter part of the upcoming weekend.
A BLIZZARD WATCH has been issued for portions of southeast South Dakota and southwest Minnesota from Sunday morning through late Sunday night. This would include locations such as Sioux Falls, Luverne, Pipestone, Windom, Fulda and Slayton.
No advisories have been issued yet for the Iowa Great Lakes.
Precipitation in northwest Iowa will begin as rain Saturday night. Rain will quickly change to snow during the day Sunday and will likely become heavy at times. Snow should begin to taper off late Sunday night or early Monday. Strong wind will cause considerable blowing and drifting Sunday night into Monday…especially along and north of Interstate 90 where the heavier snowfall is expected. Travel in those areas will likely become very difficult Sunday night into early Monday.
Anyone with travel plans over the upcoming weekend needs to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and statements.
