(Orleans)– No injuries were reported in a fire today (Sun.) that heavily damaged a home in Orleans.
Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch tells KUOO news firefighters were called to 184 Beach Street shortly after 2:00 p.m. Upon arriving he says they found heavy smoke coming from the house. He says it took firefighters about a half hour to extinguish the visible flames, but he says the fire continued to burn inside some walls. Kollasch says firefighters remained on the scene about three hours.
Kollasch says the occupants of the residence were home at the time and that they all managed to get out safely after one of them unsuccessfully tried to extinguish the fire.
Kollasch says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. He says a representative of the State Fire Marshall’s Office is expected on the scene Monday.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Spirit Lake Police Department, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and Dickinson County Emergency Management.
