ILCC Nursing Students Visit Statehouse

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)—A delegation of students from the nursing program at Iowa Lakes Community College made the trek to Des Moines yesterday (Thurs.) to visit the capitol and meet with local lawmakers.

45 ILCC nursing students visited with State Senator David Johnson, a 15-year veteran of the Health and Human Services Budget Subcommittee and ranking member of the Senate Human Resources Committee, which deals with health-related funding and policy. Students (in photo below) discussed Medicaid reimbursement rates, a looming shortage of nurses and other issues.

Also making the trek to the statehouse yesterday (Thurs.) was Roxanne White, CEO of Evertek (pictured below with Senator David Johnson). She attended an Iowa Telecommunications Association Day event at the capitol. Among other issues, she discussed property taxes and ways to address inequities in the current tax structure with local legislators.
