(Spencer)—No injuries were reported in a house fire early yesterday (Mon.) afternoon in Spencer.
Fire Chief Doug Duncan says firefighters were called shortly after noon to 811 5th Avenue Southwest. Upon arriving he says flames could be seen coming from the rear of home. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and checked to make sure it hadn’t spread to other areas of the home. Duncan says fire damage was contained to the rear of the home, with only light smoke damage in other areas.
Upon investigating he says they determined the cause was due to improperly discarded smoking materials.
Damage to the home was estimated at $10,000.
19 firefighters were on the scene a little more than an hour yesterday (Mon.)
Spencer Fire and Rescue was assisted by the Spencer Police Department and Spencer Hospital paramedics.
