Naturalist Charles Vigdal says the tour is planned at the end of March. “It’s our Sandhill Crane Tour and we’ve done it in the past. It’s part of the annual Sandhill Crane annual migration. If anyone’s ever been out there to see it, it’s pretty amazing. And it’s not just Sandhill Cranes, you see a lot of variety of waterfowl and geese behind those big groups of birds. You have the raptors and predators coming after them, so you see lots of different wildlife. It’s kind of like the birder’s mecca. It’s amazing what kind of birds you’ll see in there and there’s just millions and millions of birds that come out there. It’s kind of almost like a religious experience.”
He notes that advance registration is underway as organizers hope to get a head count for the tour. “To pre-register you can come to the Nature Center. We have registration forms here. They’re also in our newsletters and if you want to go on our website, DickinsonCountyNatureCenter.com, but the easiest way to do it would be to either email us, we can email you out a form, or to just come into the Nature Center and just sign up for it.”
The Sandhill Crane Tour is slated for March 22nd-24th.
